Ian Adams

Executive Director - Clean Shipping Alliance 2020

Session two:  2020 Fuel Challenges - Are we Ready?

Ian Adams has been involved in the Shipping Industry since 1985 in various capacities, with P&O Cruises, Deep Sea Seals and Hamworthy. He is currently Executive Director of the Clean Shipping Alliance 2020 (CSA 2020) and Managing Director of IMA Marine Ltd. He was appointed Chief Executive of The International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) in February 2009, after having been its Secretary-General for seven and a half years. During his time there, Ian gained consultative status at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for IBIA. This resulted in him being involved in the process of the revision of MARPOL Annex VI. He was a member of the IMO Secretary General’s Scientific and Industry Expert Panel during 2007. He left IBIA in July 2011. With his wide experience, Ian continues to be in demand to present at conferences around the world about emissions from ships. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology (IMarEST) and has served on the Council as well as being a Past President of the Southern Joint Branch (SJB) in the United Kingdom.

Founded in 2011, IMA Marine Ltd is a Marine Consultancy providing consultancy, acting as an expert witness, training, research and advice within the marine industry.

Tomas Aminoff

Session three:  Technology & Fuels Beyond 2020

Tomas Aminoff graduated from the Helsinki University of Technology in 2002 with a major in Marine Engineering. He has worked for 15 years for a major marine equipment supplier with special focus on alternative fuels, machinery solutions and portfolio management. Tomas has extensive knowledge of LNG as a marine fuel and has played an important role in introducing LNG as marine fuel into new vessel segments and geographical areas. This also including VOC as fuel for shuttle tankers. He has also had several positions of trust in various national and international organisation related to marine emissions and fuels.

Today, Tomas works as a Senior Consultant in Elomatic’s Marine Consultancy and Life Cycle Solutions department with focus on efficiency and environmental impact. In this position he has several blue chip companies as customer in technology a fuel selection related decision making.

Mustafa Aslan

He was born in 1980 in Izmir, Turkey. He completed his high school degree in İzmir American High School, bachelors in Economics in Izmir Dokuz Eylül University, MBA in Izmir University of Economics, respectively.

 

Mustafa Aslan started his business career as Marine Sales Manager in the family business in 1998. In 2001, Aslan established Asmira Petroleum Company. 2010 he pointed as Finance Director of the family business. In 2017 he establised Asmira Group as an umbrella company, and unified marine, bunker, yachting, logistics, F&B business lines under the main group company and became CEO. In 2019, he established Asmira&Co in Montenegro and became one of the few Turkish Bunker companies that run bunker operations in Europe.

 

Mustafa Aslan is a councilor in IMEAK Chamber of Shipping. He is a delegate of Turkey Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges (TOBB) representing IMEAK Chamber of Shipping. He is the President of Aegean Young Businessmen Association (EGİAD).

Aydın AYDIN is the Energy Manager in Genel Denizcilik Nakliyati A.S.

Genel Denizcilik Nakliyati A.S. is one  of the Major Shipping Companies in Turkey  and Tanker Industry awarded by Time Charters by the Major Oil Companies.  The Company presently  operates tanker vessels and main focus crude oil and Petroleum products.

 

After graduating from ITU Maritime Faculty as Engineer, He joined to Genel Denizcilik Nakliyati A.S. Fleet and promoted to chief engineer and finally in year 2010 he came ashore

 

Under this capacity he is mainly responsible to establish, review and improve vessel specific Planned Maintenance systems of the Tanker fleet, establishing Energy and bunker fleet optimization and monitoring.

 

With the new strict rules and regulations in the horizon such as on IMO 2020, he assumes the role of the New Projects management and directly involve in to new technologies such Ballast Water Treatment systems and Scrubbers and their installation and operation.

Kumar Balian

Kumar Balian joined Ocean Connect Marine from World Fuel Services in January 2019 and is overseeing Technical Sales and ClaimsManagement department, as well as addressing client queries on IMO 2020. Based at OCM’s London office, Kumar is involved with company’s global physical bunkering operations. 

 

Kumar got extensive 24 years’ experience in international oil and gas sectors, including 14 years at sea in senior positions for BP and other shipping companies, on all types of Oil Tankers and Floating Production Storage & Offloading units (FPSO). He has taught on Petrospot’s Advanced Oxford Bunker Courses and numerous other industry events. He has a Masters in Maritime Law Degree and is a member of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (MICS).

Can Besev

Session four: Leadership Panel

Can Besev started his bunker career in CCRS Research Services in Scotland as the apprentice of the late industry veteran Adam Dupre following his engineering and sales management roles in the United Kingdom. His early and most notable mentors included Mustafa Muhtaroglu (CEO, Energy Petrol and Turkish Bunker Association founding President), Ali Turk Kaynar (Bunker Broker) and Christopher Ryan (founding analyst of Infospectrum). In 2006, he became a Maritime Intelligence Analyst at then newly established credit agency Ocean Intelligence led by Dupre (at that time part of Petromedia Group which included Bunkerworld, Portworld and Sustainable Shipping) and held Senior and Managing Analyst roles consecutively. In 2012 he joined Peninsula Petroleum in the UK as the Business Research and Development Manager to start the Business Development department of the company, later moving to Gibraltar headquarters in 2012 where he still resides. For taking development to next stage, Can was appointed as the leader of the Global Business Origination team which he took with the motto of “unity for progress”. To date,  the vision of Global Business Origination department is to unify Peninsula values of commercial excellence, dynamism –always looking for new opportunities, pride and togetherness as One Global Team in order to achieve a continuously improving Peninsula Petroleum. Can has an MBA from UK, and is studying towards his doctorate in business management.  He speaks his native Turkish, English and Spanish.

Chris Chatterton

Over the past 25 years, Mr. Chatterton has worked at the executive level across the energy, shipping, transportation, renewables and chemical sectors, where he has been responsible for creating strategy, fundraising, restructuring, crisis management and operations for both startups and multinationals.

 

Prior to joining MI in 2015 as COO, Mr. Chatterton was Director of Oil & Gas for a vertically integrated, leading Eastern European family office with an annual turnover of USD 5 bln and core interests in fertilizer & chemical production.  In this capacity, he was chiefly responsible for strategy and management of an integrated upstream production, gas-to-power, and downstream platform to include a 550 outlet, retail petrol station network.

 

After launching a successful business incubator in Kazakhstan, circa 1992, Chris discovered a passion for connecting and guiding like-minded entrepreneurs.  Since then, he has led several energy and agricultural organizations to successful IPOs in addition to numerous cross-border private placements in the EU, Asia, Middle East and CIS and is active in the start-up space as a mentor and founder.  

 

Mr. Chatterton is fluent in Russian and holds an EMBA from HEC Paris.

Danny Chua

Erdem Coker is managing partner of Unerco Bunkers and Head of Commercial.

He graduated from Istanbul Technical University, Maritime Faculty in 1999, served at sea till 2003 in different shipping companies. He joined Arkas in 2003 and held different positions in Operations, Bunker Purchasement, Sales&Trade Manager and Deputy General Manager.

Erdem has 20 years experience in shipping and bunkering.

Nigel Draffin

Author and Board Member - IBIA

Moderator: Session three: Technology & Fuels Beyond 2020

Nigel Draffi served at sea with Shell from 1966, coming ashore in 1979 working in New Building, Research and Operations departments.  In 1996 he moved to Bunker broking first at Gibsons then at LQM Petroleum Services where he was Technical Manager before retiring in 2015. He has sailed on and supervised the construction and operation of bulk carriers, oil tankers and gas carriers. He has acted as a consultant on technical issues for over 22 years. He given expert opinions and is a supporting member of LMAA. A founder member of the International Bunker Industry Association, serving on its board and as Chairman in 2012. He is a member of the Institute of Marine Engineering Science and Technology, Past Master of the Worshipful Company of Fuellers and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Shipwrights. He is the course director of the Petrospot bunkering courses and a regular presenter at bunker conferences. He has written 12 books on Bunkering and Shipping published by Petrospot.

Unni Einemo

IBIA DIRECTOR & IMO REPRESENTATIVE

Welcome Address

Unni Einemo joined the IBIA secretariat in April 2016 as its IMO Representative, Media and Communications Manager after two years as a non-Executive board director. She was promoted to Director in order to serve as the global head of the Association in September 2018 following a unanimous decision by the board of IBIA.

Prior to joining IBIA, she worked for two decades as a journalist and analyst in the marine fuel and shipping industries in her capacity as Managing Editor for the highly regarded Bunkerworld and Sustainable Shipping specialist news services at Petromedia, and later Platts, which acquired Petromedia in July 2015. She has gained expert knowledge through engaging with industry, attending numerous maritime and energy conferences, and regularly attending IMO meetings, and has herself become a sought-after speaker at industry events. In 2018, she was named among the “Top 10 in regulation” in the Lloyd’s List annual most influential people in shipping series.

Deniz Eraydin

After graduating from Coventry University in the UK with BA Business Administration, majoring in Marketing, Deniz started his career as a Bunker Trader for CYE Petrol/Istanbul in 1995.

Between 1998 and 2008 he held the position of Operation and Sales Manager for the Company before being appointed as the CEO in 2009.

Between 2013-2018 Deniz served as Assembly Member of TCS (Turkish Chamber of Shipping) and Chairman of Environment Committee.

Deniz was the Establishing Board Member for the Turkish Bunker Association in 2001 and Vice Chairman for the Association between 2002 and 2005. He was elected as the Chairman of the Association eight times (2006, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019).

Ufuk Erinc

Ufuk Erinc is the CEO of UNERCO Petroleum and Trading Company.

He graduated from İstanbul Technical University Marine Academy and started his career in several type of cargo ships both as officer and as captain.

He has more than 25 years of experience in shipping and bunkering sectors. After the sea life, he joined to the operation team of one of the largest and best-known shipping companies in Turkey; EMES Line. After managing EMES Line operations, he established the bunkering company; “Arkas Bunkering and Trading SA” from scratch under the roof of Arkas Holding and became general manager of the company starting from day one until the foundation of UNERCO. Under his management, Arkas Bunkering achieved fenomenal success and went from strength to strength.

After 23 years under the umbrella of Arkas, he chose to proceed his career by founding UNERCO and he is currently continuing his business life as CEO and managing partner of UNERCO.

Celal Ersan

Celal Ersan currently serves as Head of Marine Sales at Petrol Ofisi A.S., Turkey’s leading distributor of fuels, LPG, lubes and petro-chemicals company.

He was born in Gaziantep. After graduating from GAL High School, he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Economics at Marmara University, Istanbul.  He also holds a degree on Finance and Management program from University of South Alabama, USA.

He started his career as early as middle school in family owned company operating in automotive industry.  He started his professional career 15 years ago at Petrol Ofisi as Territory Manager in lubes sales department, prior to holding other leadership roles in various departments including Sales & Dealer Development and Export Sales Manager. He has been heading the Marine Sales Department (PO Marine) for the past 4 years.

Celal Ersan is married with 2 children, and is a natural borne gourmet being from Gaziantep, the culinary capital of Turkey. He also likes hiking in nature during his free time.

Can Ertem

Can began his career in the shipping sector in 2005 as a dry bulk ship broker.  From December 2007 to July 2019, he worked for Lloyd’s MIU, Platts-Ocean Intelliegence and OceanConnect Marine as a ship finance analyst (primarily newbuilding financing), bunker credit analyst and credit manager.

Can is presently the Commercial Manager with OceanConnect Marine, responsible for business development and commercial projects.

Can is fluent in English and Turkish and has an MSc in Shipping, Trade
and Finance from Cass Business School.

Michael Green

Michael graduated from the University of Northumbria with a BSc (Hons) in Applied Chemistry and joined Lintec Testing Services in 2004.

In 2007 Michael was appointed Customer Services Manager, taking a more proactive role within the business and developing client relations.

In 2009 Michael took up his current role as Intertek ShipCare’s Global Technical Manager with a greater focus on Intertek ShipCare’s development of analytical techniques and test methods.

Michael Currently represents Intertek ShipCare on a number of technical committees, such as ISO/TC 28/SC 4/WG 6, CIMAC WG 7 and the Intertanko BSC. Michael is also the current IBIA Chairman.

Since 2017: Vice President in Hafnia, responsible for purchasing bunkers to own fleet as and 3rd party fleets – approx. 300 vessels. Hafnia is the result of a merger between Hafnia Tankers and BW Tankers. The new global leader within the product tanker industry.

 

Previously:

Held a number of positions related to bunkers in companies such as  Glencore, Chemoil and AP. Moller.

Started career in bunkers back in 1997 with AP Moller which I left after 10 years.

 

Been working 15 years away from Denmark in Singapore, London and Dubai.

Stuart Hall

Stuart is responsible for developing and leading the company’s international sales strategy.

Prior to joining Forecast Technology, Stuart has worked for market leading companies holding the positions of Sales Director, Technical Director and Managing Director. This necessitated the re-development of company business strategies to create greater product diversity and increased profit levels, including the development of multi-channel sales strategies. This led to improved effectiveness of the sales force and customer service levels.

Stuart has an engineering background with extensive hands-on experience of capital plant, fluid handling and consumables in numerous industries. This involved the introduction of new technology, training, management of change and improvement in profitability with achievements in team building.

Patrick Holloway

IBIA Bunker Training Course & Session one: IMO 2020 update, Compliance and Enforcement

Patrick specialises in international trade, transport and insurance law, dealing with both contentious and non-contentious aspects of matters involving, among other things, sale and trade agreements, contracts of carriage, marine and non-marine insurance, arrests and attachments of ships and other property as security for maritime claims, including mortgage foreclosures, and the purchase and sale of ships, as well as dealing with ships in distress and marine casualties.  Patrick deals with cargo claims, hull claims, ship building and repair (with particular focus on motor and sailing yachts), marine casualties, places of refuge, marine pollution, salvage and towage, and bunker disputes and claims.  Patrick is the immediate past President of the Maritime Law Association of South Africa (MLA), a main board member of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) and the head of IBIA in Africa.  He is a member of the International Bar Association, Insurance and Transport Committee, and has represented the South African MLA at the Comité Maritime International since 2008. He is a guest lecturer at the University of Kwa-Zulu Natal to LLM students and an external examiner at the University of Cape Town.  He is also the pro bono lawyer for the National Sea Rescue Institute. He is currently recognised by Legal 500 2018 and Who’s Who Legal Transport: Shipping 2018, as well as being ranked in Chambers Global 2018.

Grant Hunter

Grant Hunter is BIMCO’s Head of Contracts and Clauses, responsible for overseeing the development, revision and promotion of BIMCO’s wide range of internationally used standard contracts and clauses. He has worked in the shipping industry for 40 years. 

Grant’s career in the shipping industry spans over 40 years beginning as a deck cadet with Scottish shipping company the Ben Line Steamers Ltd, followed by eight years working ashore in the commercial and operations department of P&O Bulk Shipping in London. He has worked for BIMCO since 1997. 

He has a Master’s degree in maritime policy and law from the London School of Economics.

Edmund Hughes

Head, Air Pollution and Energy Efficiency at International Maritime Organization

Session one: IMO 2020 UPDATE, Compliance and Enforcement

Dr. Edmund Hughes is Head, Air Pollution and Energy Efficiency in the Marine Environment Division of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the United Nations specialized agency responsible for the regulation of international shipping.

As a member of the IMO Secretariat his responsibilities cover MARPOL Annex VI, the International Regulations for the Prevention of Air Pollution from Ships, including regulations on controlling emissions to air, energy efficiency for ships, and IMO’s work to address GHG emissions from international shipping. 

Marc Johnson

Having worked in the energy, finance, and tech industries, Marc has spent the majority of his career working on technological solutions to problems faced by the energy-water-food nexus. For the past several years, much of his work has focused on how frontier technologies can upend traditional business models to create more economic inclusion for underserved segments of the global population.

 

At BLOC, Marc serves as the Chief Sustainability Officer and Director of Maritime Blockchain Labs, where he brings his experience in product implementation and management from previous roles and leads the technical tracks of integrating BLOC's solutions, SaaS models, and scaling processes. Marc holds an MSc in Sustainability Management from Columbia University.

Şadan Kaptanoğlu

Keynote Session

Şadan Kaptanoglu is a shipowner and a shipyard owner. She is chief executive officer of Kaptanoglu Shipping.

 

She completed her Phd in De Montfort University after she graduated from Cass Business School, MSC Shipping,Finance and Trade.

 

On 6 June 2017 at the BIMCO General Meeting in Rome Sadan was elected as President Designate of BIMCO thereby becoming the first woman to reach that position.

 

Sadan Kaptanoglu is the chairperson of TURMEPA and vice president of INTERMEPA. She is vice chairperson of Turkish Chamber of Shipping as well.

 

Sadan is the first winner of Seatrade young person of the year award in 2008.

She is married, has two daughters.

Taha Karakan

Session seven: Turkey - An Example of 2020 Readiness

Taha Karakan joined BMS United in June 2015. He is the Cargo Supply Manager, and the head of BMS group's exclusive Physical Banker Sales arm for the area of the Dardanelles Straits and Canakkale. In BMS, Taha wears many hats: he is handling in-system cargo sourcing and 3rd party cargo trading processes, he is responsible of hedging strategies, and he holds a leading role in the team responsible for the company’s Turkish client portfolio. 

Prior to joining BMS, he worked in various positions in finance and trade, with the last one being his role in OPET Trade Singapore as a Trading Analyst; during his time in OPET, Taha was in charge of the P&L analysis of up to 400KT physical and 100KT paper book along with trade finance activities. He is a graduate of the Jonkoping International Business School of Sweden (International Management and Finance). 

Tamer Kiran

He was born in Istanbul in 1969. He received his Bachelor's Degree in International Relations from Faculty of Economics of Anadolu University. He received his Diploma in Maritime Management from London City College. In 1990, he began to work in Kıran Holding, a family company which operates in the field of ship owner and shipyard affairs. He is currently serving as Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Kıran, was elected as the 8th Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Turkish Chamber of Shipping on April 8th, 2018. Along with this assignment, he is also assuming his office as the Vice President of the Board of Directors in the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey.

Apart from these assignments, he is also: Chairman of the Turkish Maritime Education Foundation (TÜDEV), Board Member of the Trustees in Piri Reis University, Board Member of the Turkish Shipowners Employers’ Union, Board Member of the Turkish Marine Environment Protection Association (TURMEPA), Executive Committee Member in Turkey-Malta Business Council (DEİK).

Other than these assignments, he was also; Board Member of the Turkish Maritime Education Foundation between 2006 and 2014, Board Member of the Economic Development Foundation between 2007 and 2014, Board Member of the Beşiktaş Gymnastics Club (BJK) between 2012 and 2013, Board Member of the "International Chamber of Shipping" as the representative of "Turkish Chamber of Shipping" between 2011 and 2014, Chairman of the Turkish Shipowners Employers’ Union between 2014 and 2018. She is also an Associate Partner at Dare Disrupt, a global speaker and a digital Course Leader for courses offered at MIT Sloan, Columbia Business School and Wharton. 

Lars Malmbratt

Lars is General Manager Bunker Procurement at Stena Bulk in Sweden and part of the Company’s Sustainability Team . Before this position Lars was Head of Stena Bulks office in Singapore. His career in Stena started 1996 when he joined Stena Oil as logistical and sales manager. Over the years Lars held various positions within Stena Oil including Managing Director. He holds an MBA from University of Gothenburg, School of Business Economics and Law.

ROBIN MEECH is Managing Director of Marine and Energy Consulting, an independent consultancy practice focusing on the marine industry with an emphasis on the transport of energy.

 

He has a particular interest in the bunker sector where he has undertaken assignments for ship owners, the Majors as well as independent traders and national oil companies. He advises companies in the bunker sector on environmental issues, forming alliances, purchasing strategies, organisation, new business ventures, credit insurance, logistics, IT systems and e-business.

 

Robin Meech has comprehensive experience in environmental issues having been a member of IMO Steering Committee advising to the introduction of the global cap in 2020.

 

He is co-author of the book “Bunkers – An Analysis of the Technical and Environmental Issues”. He is currently chairman of the International Bunker Industry Association.

Lars was educated at the shipping academy of Maersk Copenhagen, where he worked for about 10 years and was engaged in purchasing (Houston), crewing, marine insurance, chartering of offshore vessels and was sales manager for Maersk Drilling in South East Asia (Singapore).

 

In 1994 Lars took over the helm at BMS in Piraeus, Greece and today runs a large successful organisation with 5 offices world-wide located in many shipping centres and time zones.

 

In addition to the Maersk Shipping academy Lars holds an MBA from the University of Portsmouth.

Irene Notias

Irene Notias founded and is the managing director of the bunker buying management service provider, Prime’s Bunkersplus Services.  The company has earned the respect of an extensive international network of vendors and shipping companies.

She has serviced hundreds of bunker buyers in her 21 years career as a bunker broker in Piraeus and remains one of the few long-standing independent bunker brokers, specialized in the Greek ship owning market.  She has also held Sales & Marketing Manager positions in 2 internationally known bunker fuel  trader / supplier corporations.

 

Originally from the Ship owning sector, in NYC, Irene switched over to the marine fuel business in 1998 and has practically made buying bunkers a management science.

 

Irene holds a Bachelors of Business Administration from Pace University, NYC, majoring in International Management and a Master’s program in Human Relations at Brooklyn College.   She is a member of IBIA and its Ethics and Business Practices Working group and an author of numerous articles and educator on bunker buying.

Eleni Pittalis

Eleni is the Managing Editor of the EMEA Middle Distillates team. She has focused on IMO 2020 since March 2017 previously with the fuel oil team at Platts, and is now combining the world of fuel oil and distillates.

Eleni holds a MSc in Shipping Trade and Finance from Cass Business School, London and a BSc in Geography from Loughborough University.

Charis Plakantonaki

Charis Plakantonaki is the Chief Strategy Officer of Star Bulk Carriers Corp., the largest US listed dry bulk shipping company.
Before joining Star Bulk in 2015, Charis worked at Thenamaris (Ships Management) Inc. for seven years, initially as Strategic Projects Manager and subsequently as Head of Corporate Communications. Prior to Thenamaris she was a Senior Consultant at the Boston Consulting Group where she managed strategy development projects for multinational companies across different industries.
Charis received a B.S. in International & European Economics & Politics from the University of Macedonia, where she graduated as valedictorian, and a Master in Business Administration from INSEAD.
She is the Vice-Chair of the Clean Shipping Alliance 2020, and she also serves on the Board of Trustees of the Anatolia College in Thessaloniki and on the Advisory Board of the Blue Growth initiative.

Alexander Prokopakis is the CEO of LNG probunkers Holdings and the architect of the probunkers project. Prior to founding probunkers, he served Mamidakis Brothers Group as a senior executive, leading all of the Group's Shipping, Bunkering and Aviation activities, through its respective companies: JetOil, JetTank and STYGA Compania Naviera. Mr. Prokopakis has over 20 years of professional experience in commercial leadership positions, over which he has attained deep knowledge and expertise mainly in the industry of shipping and bunkering. He is a Graduate of St. John's University with an MBA in Executive Management and holds a BSc Degree in Business Management from the State University of New York.

Vishnu leads Stena Bulk’s data science and analytics work and together with Lars is part of the Sustainability team where he helps evaluate climate risk and develop strategies to manage Stena Bulk’s transition. He is an Economist and a Statistician and holds a PhD in Energy and Economics from University College London. Prior to joining Stena, Vishnu worked in research and consulting, supporting the IMO, governments, oil-majors, shipping companies, and other institutions to help decarbonise the industry.

Cem Saral is the CEO of the Cockett Group (www.cockettgroup.com), one of the world’s leading resellers of marine and petroleum products and services and has over 20 years of industry experience on marine fuels and fuel oil trading.

During his career Cem has been employed at various key trading and management roles by leading oil trading and marine fuel oil companies. He has a wide geographical coverage and direct working experience in Europe, Asia, US, Far East and the Middle East.

Having worked extensively at both marine fuels and fuel oil trading industries, Cem has a sound understanding of the entire fuel oil supply chain and physical trading on a global basis. As a further value-add, he has had the opportunity to employ these direct trading experiences into areas of business development, management and strategic M&A activities.

Prior to joining to Cockett, Cem was last employed as a fuel oil trader by Vitol, one of the world’s leading energy and commodity trading companies (www.vitol.com) and 50% shareholder of the Cockett Group. 

Cem holds a BSc degree in Operations Research from Turkish Naval Academy and throughout his career he has attended a wide range of programs on trading, risk, finance and management.

Mikhail Shapiro heads up Glencore’s IMO 2020 preparations as well as the Marine Fuels department. Mikhail has been in the industry for over 15 years and has held multiple roles, including: marine fuels marketing, oil operations, fuel blending, vessel chartering as well as derivative and physical oil trading in various regions around the world. Mikhail is a member of the ISO marine fuels specifications working group.

J. Stephen (“Steve”) Simms is a Principal of Simms Showers LLP.  He serves as Chair of the International Bunker Industry Association (IBIA) Legal Working Group and is a past IBIA’s Board member.

 

 Simms Showers is one of the world’s most active law firms working in the area of bunker trader, broker and supplier representation, vessel arrest, maritime attachment, and related maritime remedies for creditors. The Firm has to date recovered over $700 million for its clients as the result of vessel arrest and maritime attachment proceedings throughout the world.

 

 Mr. Simms was selected for the United States Department of Justice, Honor Law Graduates Program and served as a federal prosecutor.  He was Editor‑in‑Chief of the Northwestern Journal of International Law and Business at Northwestern University School of Law (Chicago),  holds an M.A. in International Studies from The Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies, and a B.A. in International Studies from The Johns Hopkins University.

 

He is the Husband of his wife of 30 years, Denise, and Dad of daughter Alison and son John,  and of West Highland White Terrier Barrett, who enjoys chasing squirrels with the same enthusiasm that Mr. Simms has for chasing ships.

Zeki Tarakcı was born in Istanbul in 1976, graduated from İstanbul Technical Üniversity as Marine Engineer in 1998. He has engaged in different positions in marine sector. He served as a 2nd and cheif engineer positions on vessels between 1998 – 2003 in international waters. He also served various positions in Petrol Ofisi Marine Sales Department, namely Territory Manager, Coordinator and Sales Manager between 2003 – 2012.  Zeki Tarakcı, was involved in many marine sales projects at international ports. Following joining to SOCAR Turkey team in 2012 he realized the establishment of  marine sales department in Socar Turkey and is still working as Marine Sales Director. In addition, he is married and has 2 children.

Capt. Ulunay Terzi is the Global Head Of Freight Operations for COFCO International Freight with the global responsibility of all freight operations.Capt Ulunay has over more then 25 years experience in the maritime industry especially; ship management, newbuilding supervision, procurement, fleet management.  Prior to joining COFCO, he was the Operation Manager . with KIRAN for 15 years. Capt. Ulunay’s experience includes  10 years at sea rising to the rank of Master,including time served on-board bulk carriers, tankers, general cargo vessels. Capt. Ulunay graduated from the Istanbul Technical University Maritime Transportation Management in 1994.

Luca Volta

Luca is the Marine Fuels Venture Manager, Global Marine Marketing, responsible for leading the Marine organization in developing strategic relationships with key customers and for the development of marine fuels solutions to meet Marine Fuels’ and ExxonMobil objectives. He is also responsible for representing Marine Fuels at global level with key customers, suppliers, contractors and ExxonMobil affiliates.

 

Luca received his doctorate in Physical Organic Chemistry in 1999.  He began his career with ExxonMobil in the same year as a Scientist at the Esso Research Centre in Abingdon working in the Fuels area.  Through his career, Luca has undertaken assignments in Sales, Operations, Planning and M&A. 

 

Luca currently serves on a number of boards as Director, amongst them the board of directors of ExxonMobil Marine Limited (EMML) and formerly on the board of the Society for Gas as Marine Fuels (SGMF).

Tracy Wardell

Tracy began her working life as a Research Chemist with ICI on Teesside.

Having held a number of research and development positions, Tracy joined the Oilfield Chemicals Division of ICI, where she spent 13 years, working closely with customers, solving technical issues through the development of new products.

In 2011 Tracy joined Lintec Testing Services, now Intertek ShipCare, as Operations & Key Account Manager. In 2014 Tracy moved into a commercial role within Intertek ShipCare, as Business Development Manager, targeting growth in the European region.

Tracy is a BSc Chemistry graduate.

Matt Wright

Matt Wright is Manager in the crude and refined products team in London which is responsible for producing short and long term price and fundamentals forecasts. Matt edits Argus Marine Fuels Outlook, a quarterly report which provides coverage of the latest developments as the market responds to IMO 2020. In addition to contributing to a number of Argus’ subscription reports, Matt works on a range of bespoke client projects including refinery feasibility studies and crude and products storage analysis.
